Today I decided to register ‘sabinofamily.co.cc‘ – the official domain name for my family tree. ‘sabinofamily.com’ was already taken. But it’s alright because it’s a good thing that I didn’t have to pay for the .co.cc.
Just a quick note, www.co.cc offers FREE domain names, and I’ve had a test account with them since 2008! So far so good, so I completely recommend them. I will talk more about the site in a later date. Today I will talk about setting up my family tree.
My siblings and I have been trying to trace our ancestors. I have the records and I must say, it’s full of blanks.
I would really like to answer – accurately – questions that our future generations might have. Just today, my cousin Neil told me that he has 3 half sisters! Which means I have 3 additional first cousins, and I don’t think they know anything about me and vice versa.
So I’m glad that I’ll be able to set up this website – my family and I can work on its content and information collaboratively. My elder brother obtained a lot of information while I was still studying in China. So I’m really glad that I am now back in the Seychelles so I can pay a visit to the National Archives. They might have valuable information.
At the moment we know a lot about the ancestors from my mother’s father’s side. We have people linking back to Canada. I don’t know much about the ancestors on my father’s side. I will have to ask my relatives in the Philippines. Perhaps one day I’ll get to visit the country again and search for the information myself.
So anyway, if you’re related to me do link up so I can add you to the family tree. Basically, my surname is Sabino (from my dad) and that side of my family is from the Philippines. I know that’s rather vague but I’ll have to find out more from my family there. My aunty (father’s sister) Stella married a Goboy. So I am also related to some Goboys.
I know more about my Seychellois relatives. My mother’s parents are Winnie Ah-Time and Desire Lavigne. Apparently, I am related to all Ah-time and Lavigne families here in Seychelles. If you are any of that through marriage then obviously I am not related to you.
But if you are born either of those, then we are most likely related.
Just to let you know, our Ah-Time is from my grandmother Winnie’s father. According to records he is “Chang Ah-Time”. He was from Canton (Guangdong) in China. He married a French lady whose surname was “Pondar”, “Pondart” or something similar. I will have to verify the spelling at the National Archives. I have lots of other surnames written in the family tree but I leave them out for now.
I’m off to work on the site now.

Hi
I am doing family tree research too- found this while I was looking – I have spent more than a few hours too many in the archives in Seychelles! Anyway I havent got any overlaps of names you mention – but Ah-Time rings a bell I think neighbours in St Louis – I am interested in a relative also from Canton – Francois Sham Hong – obviously not his real name but I cant find any record of what it was – he is my grandmothers father (shes 93). The main names I am looking for are – Nantie / Nanty, Worsoncroft, Anta, St Ange, Mein. I have found lots of names so if you have any cross overs with these do ask – my email is above.
Cherie
Hi Cherie, I really appreciate your comment.
I’m not sure about St. Louis but there are many, many Ah-Time in the north of Mahe…specifically the Beau Vallon area.
I’m not related to Mein (none that I know of) but I have Mein in my slightly over-extended family tree. My great, great grandfather Antoine Joseph Lavigne married (or had a child) with a lady called Marie Zelie Uranie Georges. This lady’s brother Charles Alexandre Georges married a Sarah Berthe Mein.
That said, my grandfather’s sister Florette Lavigne married an Adeline, and the Adeline’s brother was married to a Mein.
I have a friend’s family tree with me. We link up through the Mein family (although in her case she is related to them by bloodline). She doesn’t have Anta in her family, but Antat.
Phew! There are so many links to everyone in Seychelles. Heheh.
Antat and Anta are the same name just a spelling variation – I have details on that line going back to 1786 Hypolite Anta whose mother was Bastienne (no details yet on her) – from Ilse de France-
I asked my mum how do I know the name Ah Time – she said I was getting mixed up the one in St Louis was Ak Kee – BUT -Yola AhTime is my uncles ex partner she is the mother of Kurt Mein my first cousin. I know about the Georges connection as I looked at it a bit as my mum said her father said that the Georges were cousins so I had checked – like you said there are so many links in Seychelles. I will look through my stuff for an Adeline – but as you know they all had so many children who married and had so many children and so on.
I would be interested to know which Antat your friend is related to – My Grandmothers mother was Eloise Anta (I named my baby girl after her) she is the daughter of Remy Florent Anta – sometimes ANTAT on some documents. Also which Mein she linked with – I have the Mein family back to 1728 (and the father of him – but no dates)
Thanks for the facebook message or I wouldnt have known you had replied
ciao for now Cherie
Yola is my mum’s first cousin. I haven’t fully explored the Ah-Time side of my family tree though, but I will ask my mum more details about this later. I suppose that’s how we would link up in a way,…everyone is linked up here in Seychelles!
So much so that my friend had to explore her family tree thoroughly before having a child with someone just to make sure they weren’t remotely related!
My friend is related to Anastasie Antat and Zelonie Antat. This was in the 1800s. Both girls married into Laurence and Simeon. The Laurence child married Jean George Mein.
Other surnames in my friend’s family tree: Hibon, Payet, Dennemont, Gontier, Adeline, Monthy, Stravens, St. Leger, Rose, Geers…and a whole lot more. She did a lot of research, haha.
This is a great FREE software if you’re looking for one: http://www.genopro.com/free
Hi
I will check those names on my tree – I am using rootsmagic software that I downloaded – over the last 8 years I now have over 1100 names – both my husbands and my family tree.
I will check the antat – but we also have lots and lots of Gontier too.
Will get back to you later
Wow, that’s impressive!
No matter how many names I find there are always a few more hiding somewhere!
