Open Mind. Open Heart. Open Source.

  • Sharebar

It’s my new tagline for this blog.  It’s basically what I’ll be blogging about.  In fact, it really is my life’s policy to keep an open mind, to have an open heart…and something more related to my internet passion: open source.  This tagline definitely describes me very well.

Open Mind

Some people tell me that I change my opinions and decisions all the time.  I can’t contest that.  It’s part of my being an open-minded individual.  To be open-minded is to consider other possibilities; other people’s opinions, etc. and correct myself wherever and whenever necessary.  It is part of wanting to be a better person, to keep an open mind is to progress as an individual.

Open Heart

Where do I even begin with this one? I believe that if it’s not unconditional then it is not love.  This applies to loving everything; family, friends, pets, and the nice people we are privileged to meet every day.  An open heart is not forcing yourself to love everything…it’s about accepting everyone for the way they are, tolerating the things we don’t like about people and certain certain circumstances, seeing the good in everyone, avoid hurting anyone intentionally, to be honest and sincere, etc.

Open Source

I am so grateful to open source.  I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for open source softwares.  I found out about it in 2007 when I registered my very first domain name.  I didn’t want an HTML website and I needed a forum so somehow I found what I was looking for in PHP Nuke and YaBB.  This has also changed my way of thinking, especially in my industry.  Open source is a movement that reveals source codes and permit public use of it, e.g. modifications and development.  Most open source softwares are free…and this type of thinking really helps develop the industry.  It really relates to having an ‘open mind’ and an ‘open heart’.

I know people who are so tight-ar$ed with their creations, e.g. photographs, graphics, etc.  Obviously it is wrong to try to pass someone’s creations and compositions as your own (e.g. plagiarism) but if someone can develop your idea into something else that benefits the industry and the general public then I don’t see why not.

Anyway, I hope you like my new and official tagline.  I also hope you like my frequent updates this month.
