I’ve had my Nokia 5530 since late 2009 and it’s been a pretty cool phone. Lots of the wonderful apps out there make it the wonderful phone it is so I want to recommend a list of 10 Nokia Symbian S60 V5 apps for compatible phones out there e.g. Nokia5228, Nokia 5230, Nokia 5233, Nokia 5235, Nokia 5530 XpressMusic, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition, Nokia C5-03, Nokia C6-00, Nokia N97, Nokia N97 mini, Nokia X6, Samsung i8910 Omnia HD, Sony Ericsson Satio, Sony Ericsson Vivaz, Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro, etc.
These apps IMO are must-haves!
1.] Nimbuzz (Multi-Protocol IM) – www.nimbuzz.com

Nimbuzz
Wow, where do I even begin with Nimbuzz? After I bought my phone I was scheming through the apps at the wonderful GetJar.com and that was where I found Nimbuzz. It was very new to me, and I was reluctant to install it because I had never heard of it before that. But after using it, I thought it was amazing and from then I’ve been recommending it to my friends. I even recommended the PC version to my mum and she loves it. So much so, that she recommended it to a family friend when she went to the Philippines and had to use their computer. Now the lady who uses that computer also uses Nimbuzz.
2.] Snaptu (Multi-Resource App) – www.snaptu.com

Snaptu
I first tried Snaptu when I was looking for a Facebook app. I now use it when I want to access Facebook and Twitter on my phone, it offers a great user-friendly and simple user interface for these sub apps. There are plenty of “sub apps” to choose from, directly from Snaptu. It’s a really ‘lite’ software and loads fast so I really give this a thumbs up.
3.] Skype (Free VOIP and IM) – www.skype.com

Skype
Skype for mobile works just like the PC version, which includes actual VOIP so you can still make calls. Although in this case you might want to be careful if you are not on a good mobile internet package. The mobile version also allows IM chat and call forwarding. I use Skype quite often so I’m glad there is a compatible mobile version for my Nokia model.
4.] Google Maps (Map Service) – www.google.com

Google Maps
I don’t use Google Maps in Seychelles because I’m quite familiar with the place. But I found it extremely useful in Shanghai, where although I am also relatively familiar with the city there are still very tiny alleys and small roads that are sometimes a headache to find. Google maps was very useful in helping me find the distance between two youth hostels from the train station, and their quickest route. I also remember getting lost near one of these youth hostels when I decided to guess its location, so I used Google Maps to help me find my way on foot. It displays your actual location in real-time which is priceless. The downside however, is that it has a high data usage. I was on GPRS at the time, and it just wiped out my credit.
5.] Adobe Reader LE 2.5 (PDF Reader) – www.quickoffice.com [commercial]

Adobe Reader LE 2.5
I was able to install the 30-day trial on my phone and I really enjoyed the experience. I downloaded a lot of PDF eBooks and was able to do some reading on my phone. There really ought to be a free version of the software though. Just saying.
6.] Quick Office Premier 6 (Microsoft Office Mobile) – www.quickoffice.com [commercial]

Quick Office Premier 6
Another really cool software from Quick Office. I just tried the 30-day trial for this software as well, it was excellent. Imagine being able to type up a letter or a document, use excel sheets, etc. Not bad, for something that’s available on your mobile phone. It transforms the phone into something like a mini tablet PC.
