Should I Get The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1?

Recently I decided to sell my Eee PC 1000H laptop which I’ve had since 2008 because I just never used it and someone I know had been looking for one.

I simply prefer desktops, and I’ve been on the same desktop (RAM-upgraded HP Pavilion PC w1108cl) since 2004!

But a few weeks ago a client came by to show off his Samsung Galaxy Tab. He showed me its features and I could already imagine traveling with it  or just sitting on my bed with it and chatting on MSN, etc.  I was blown away with its features, and I’ve been wanting to own something with the Android OS to test it.

But then again, I’m the type of person who would buy anything and every kind of junk shown on infomercials.

My primary concern is: “is it worth it?” I mean, I sold my laptop because I never used it.  When I did, I would use it on the desk, and I rarely ever used it to chat on my bed.  I only brought it on the plane with me a few times, but actually used it only once on a flight to play games.

Partly because laptops are bulky and if you don’t have a flat surface to place them on they are placed on the lap (hence its name?).  But I don’t know how useful the Galaxy Tab will be to me.  Quite a while ago, in 2010 when iPad was first released by Apple, I never considered getting one (being pro-Microsoft, I’m automatically anti-Apple).

But for a few months now I’ve been on the search for a new phone.  I’ve been a Nokia fan for too long, but I really want to switch to Android because I’m an open source buff.  The Galaxy Tab can make and receive phone calls, and it can also be used with a bluetooth handsfree kit.  Here are the specs:

According to Gadgetian.com, its June price is $499 for the 16GB one, and the 32GB one costs $599.  Although that’s quite steep for someone who will be unemployed very soon *ahem* it might benefit me in other ways, like blogging for example.  I would be able to blog at places beyond the home and office.  The disadvantage would be GPRS costs.  How much will my phone bill cost me then? I currently have a monthly phone bill of approximately $5 (yay me!).  According to my client, he spends about $150 per month for his Tab’s internet connection.  That in itself is a big turn off.  Maybe I should just stick to my old but efficient desktop. :(
