Yesterday I was at Mustafa Centre‘s sports section trying to find an exercise tool I could use to help me keep fit and lose some excess weight. I saw yoga balls, push up bars, punching bags, balls, tennis rackets, badminton rackets, etc. Then I came across Reebok’s speed rope and I had found my exercise “weapon” of choice.
I used to enjoy skipping rope when I was a child, and I also had a skipping rope when I was still in China but I must have lost it while packing or I probably decided to throw it away before coming back to Seychelles.
This is my first “speed” rope though. The difference in appearance between that and a normal skipping rope is the handle bars design. The speed rope’s handle bars are lightweight and thin, and the rope is heavier than the handle bars. I tried it for a bit today and compared to normal skipping ropes, this one’s rope is ‘solid’ if that even makes sense.
My leg is not getting any better so I will not skip rope again today. But while skipping, I could really feel how heavy I’ve become. It’s incredibly uncomfortable to be this particular weight. I really don’t understand how some people can actually enjoy being overweight…it takes a lot of physical freedom away from you.
My objective is to do about 20 skips a day. I know that doesn’t seem like much but I feel it’s realistic. Wish me luck!
