I was reading through a blog I found last night and I fell on a post that reminded me so much of my earlier internet days, even before I started designing and developing websites: making pocket money online! I’ll say ‘pocket money’ and not ‘money’ because that’s pretty much what I was aiming for, I didn’t even know people could earn a living online at the time!
I remember searching on Google for all kinds of things I could do online. The easiest thing out there was creating content for websites; e.g. forum posting (e.g. DormCheck, back in the days), article posting, MyLot type of communities, etc. There was even small things like PPC (pay per click), PPP (pay per post), PPE (pay per email), and so on.
If I actually count my earnings, I would say I’ve earned more through forum posting. I used to be a member of Spleak forum, and I had over 5000 posts before they closed down (the company was sold to another as far as I know). So if it’s something I can do, it’s forum post!
That said, whenever I think about my past and how naive I was, I really can’t imagine how much I was contributing to developing someone else’s website and project!
My advice is this: if you’re looking for a quick buck, e.g. to buy a domain name or something low-cost, by all means go for it. Visit a few webmaster forums and negotiate with any webmaster there for unique content. If you take the work seriously you could earn enough to buy several domain names and several years of web hosting.
But the best thing to do is to develop your own website, especially if you’re great at working fast and creating your own content. You’ll be cashing in some advert and affiliate cheques in no time.
