Just a few minutes ago a longtime online friend of mine from the late Spleak forum invited me to Google+ and I’ve already started testing it, and inviting a few of my friends and family members with Gmail email addresses (assuming that they are most likely to join). I’m already impressed at how fast everything works, and it has a lot of potential. I suppose it’s a lot like Facebook, minus the annoying application and game invites, which makes it a little more professional I suppose.
I do have a handful of friends who are Google fanatics; the ones that have supported Google Buzz and Google Wave, etc. But I have been rather disappointed with both and so have a few of my friends, so I don’t know how they will react to this one. Let’s hope Google+ develops into something useful and very pro-social.
There are 3 main things you can do:
- Circles - Browse your circles to see what all the different people in your life are sharing with you.
- Hangouts - Start a hangout anytime, from anywhere. Up to ten people can stop in and chat.
- Sparks - Use Sparks to get a constant feed of stuff you’re really into, and share it with friends.
Default circles are: family, friends, acquaintances, following.
Features are relatively limited for now, but it is still in its testing phase so I’m sure there will be more features to come in the future.
