I was happy with my driving experience today because my instructor allowed me to drive all the way to the airport (via the highway). It was my very first time on the main road!
The image above shows the inside part of the stadium where I first started driving. As you can see, the country has had a prolonged drought period so that might explain why the grass is actually all brown. Anyway, I was going as fast as 60Kmph on the highway and he told me to drop it to 40Kmph.
It’s weird because when you’re driving, you really don’t feel the speed at 60. A whole bunch of people were overtaking me so they must have been going 80-90Kmph or so. I can’t believe I was on the road today!
Before the lesson, I decided to wear casual clothes (polo shirt and jeans) so I can wear shoes. Normally, I wear decent office clothes with heels so I drive barefooted. But my twin sister has warned me about driving barefooted because according to her, when you get too used to it you won’t be able to drive with your shoes on.
The soles of my shoes weren’t that thick though, so I could still feel the pedals really well. I think they’re called canvas shoes. In fact, they were probably a little more comfortable than driving barefooted. But I must admit, sometimes I wasn’t too sure if I had released the accelerator all the way or if I was still pressing it.
I got scolded today.
Basically, I made a turn at Pointe Larue right after the airport. We turned inside a lane, so I had to do a U-turn back into the main road. While turning, the instructor told me to keep my foot on clutch, and press on the accelerator. I kept my foot away from the clutch and he got mad. He repeated himself, “keep your foot on clutch!” and I replied, “if I keep my foot on clutch the car won’t move!”
Apparently I misunderstood him. He meant that I should keep my foot on the clutch, but not actually press it. Big whoops! I still need U-turn practice though. My sister told me that when I start practicing with cones, it will help solve a lot of my problems. I have another lesson tomorrow afternoon, and will be taking the same route. I really hope I do better this time.
