In October 2009, Microsoft released the long-awaited Windows 7, successor to Windows Vista. There are 6 editions of Windows 7; Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate, the last 3 predominantly available for retail and the first 3 mainly pre-installed. Depending on the edition you acquire, you will notice differences in performance and even basic options.
According to Microsoft, Windows 7 has had most of Windows XP and Vista’s bugs fixed. To install Windows 7 Ultimate, you will require the following minimum requirements:
32-Bit (x86):
1 GHz processor
1 GB RAM
16 GB Hard Disk Space
64-Bit (x64)
1 GHz processor
2 GB RAM
20 GB Hard Disk Space
Windows 7 Ultimate has great aero options for the appearance. It also offers great search features and is the least limited in terms of features and the whole Windows 7 experience. Windows 7 offers users pre-installed premium games, smart and helpful “click-to-desktop” location, snipping tool, sticky notes as well as must-haves nowadays- Bit Locker for privacy protection of your hard disk drives, ReadyBoost to enable your USB drive to function as a RAM to speed things up and probably my favourite feature- No printer/ fax drivers required to use printers/ fax!
XP mode is still available free for download in Microsoft’s official website if some softwares are still giving you a bit of a hassle to install or function properly.
Microsoft plans of ceasing support for Windows 7 Ultimate in 2015.
