Facebook has a new sidebar for sending messages and for chatting. I just noticed this today. It’s not bad at all, I think they’ve added friends who we interact with most. To add a friend that’s not on that list, you have to search for them using the search feature at the bottom of this sidebar.
This is a smart addition because it’s great for chatting and knowing who’s online. It’s also a wise thing to keep this optional. To hide it, select the settings button at the bottom of the page and select the ‘Hide Sidebar’ option.
The interesting part of this new feature is that it places the sponsored ads right between your wall or news feed and the chat. This gives the adverts more exposure and increases the possibility of users actually clicking the ads.
