Earlier today I received an SMS from my mum’s cousin who told me that her daughter really wanted to have some movies on her PSP Go (aka “PlayStation Portable Go”). I don’t know much about this portable game console because when it comes to games I’m a big fan of Nintendo and not quite Sony. Nevertheless, I told her I’ll try to help her.
First thing I did was to search online for a compatible format. MP4 was one of them…but not just any MP4, a specific type. Who ever knew there were more than one type of MP4 format? Certainly not I.
The following formats include:
- MPEG4 320X240 768kbps Stereo/128kbps
- MPEG4 320X240 768kbps Stereo/128kbps (Fast but BAD)
- MPEG4 320X240 768kbps Stereo/128kbps 2-Pass
- MPEG4 320X240 768kbps Stereo/128kbps AviSynth
- MPEG4 368X208 768kbps Stereo/128kbps
- MPEG4 368X208 768kbps Stereo/128kbps 2-Pass
- MPEG4 368X208 768kbps Stereo/128kbps AviSynth
- MPEG-4 AVC 320X240 768kbps Stereo/128kbps
- MPEG-4 AVC 320X240 768kbps Stereo/128kbps (Fast but BAD)
- MPEG-4 AVC 320X240 768kbps Stereo/128kbps 2-Pass
- MPEG-4 AVC 320X240 768kbps Stereo/128kbps AviSynth
- MPEG-4 AVC 480X272 768kbps Stereo/128kbps
- MPEG-4 AVC 480X272 768kbps Stereo/128kbps 2-Pass
- MPEG-4 AVC 480X272 768kbps Stereo/128kbps AviSynth
- MPEG-4 AVC 640X480 1024Kbps Stero/128kbps
- MPEG-4 AVC 720X480 1024Kbps Stero/128kbps

I found a FREE MP4 converter specifically for PSP Go. Check it out, it’s called the PSPgo Video 9. I’ll be honest, it takes AGES to convert a movie from AVI format to MP4, about 2-3 hours for a file that’s about 600MB. Nevertheless, it works as it should, very user-friendly despite the ads on the software, and the movie is exported into a folder of your choice on your computer. The converted video file does not contain watermark (that most trial or free software tend to embed) so it’s all good.
This particular software also converts videos for the following devices:
