Driving Lesson 8: Same Route!

Today’s lesson sucked a little bit.  I didn’t learn as much as I wanted to.  I took the car from the small playground car park, drove it to the Plaisance roundabout through Mont Fleuri and then to the Seychelles International Airport through the same Cascade route.  From there, I drove it back to town through the highway, and parked inside the car park near Nouvobanq.  I guess that was the highlight of the day: I got to do more clutch control and also parked smoothly.

I was supposed to be doing cones at Stad Linite today but according to Mr. R, they were cleaning that area when he arrived there this morning.  So he’s pushed the cones thing for tomorrow.  He also told me that I’ll be doing cones for the rest of the week.  This means I will learn how to reverse properly, turn better and faster, practice clutch control further, etc.  I’m really glad about this.

Mr. R completely changed his engine this weekend, and it was pretty obvious because it almost felt like I was driving a newer car.  I really felt the power when I was speeding on the highway.  Today I kept it slightly above 60Kmph and I wasn’t scolded at all.  In fact, I did receive a few “go faster” today which is good news to me.  It shows some level of self-control with my ‘need for speed’, and it also shows some level of trust from my instructor.

Today, the Cascade route ‘felt’ a lot easier…especially the narrow roads and turns.  I really must be getting the hang of it.  Soon, I would really like to try the North East Point route again.

A few things is getting to be first-nature to me too, for example, starting in first gear and then shifting to second gear when I’m properly set on the road.  The problems come in when I have to stop quickly, and then start again…today I noticed he was braking for me is why I wasn’t moving at all even if my accelerator was on high rev.

The best thing about posting my experience here on the blog is that I can always go back to it later, sort of like a diary.  Just last Monday it was my first time on the road, and I feel like I’ve accomplished so much already with less than 10 lessons.

I can actually say that I might be getting the hang of driving in general.  Okay, so I haven't been taught how to reverse yet, but all in all, I ...
