Waiting for Mr. R To Order His Lunch at Les Mamelles
My instructor successfully pissed me off today. I don’t mind the having to stop for him to pee on the side of the road. I don’t mind having to stop for him to get a takeaway. I don’t mind having to drive other students to the destination of their choice. I don’t mind him being a bit late. But what I do mind is the change in schedule. It is AMAZING how much people in this country do not respect people like me who are either unemployed or who works at home. It’s just not something most people here can relate to because most people who are unemployed are either drug addicts who steal to support their addiction, or people with no skills nor qualifications.
My lesson was supposed to start at 8:45am. We agreed to this specific time last Thursday. I went to bed at around 3-4am this morning, and made a serious effort to wake up at 8am. At 8:40 I sent him a text telling him that I might be 5 minutes late because I was only about to walk down just then (meeting place: Fresh Cuts). A split second later, he calls back telling me that he almost forgot to tell me that he’s changed my time and that I will be driving at 9:30am. So I tried to keep myself busy until then. At around 9am, he called to inform me that I will be driving at 11:30, and that I should just wait for him at my place. It was around 11:45 by the time I saw him outside and I took the wheel at Roche Caiman right after the round about.
The other student left the driver seat and then she told us that she wanted to be dropped in town. Right before the roundabout she changed her mind and told us to drop her at Eden Island. All these “irregularities” in routine is good practice for me though, so I was very glad when she changed her mind. So I turned into Mont Fleuri and back into Roche Caiman, and then straight to Eden Island. We then turned back to Roche Caiman via the highway, stopped at Les Mamelles for Mr. R to buy a takeaway, and then he told me to head back to town through Mont Fleuri. As we approached town, he told me to turn left into the Bel Air road.
I was glad because it was a new road, and he was also allowing me to swerve the curves on my own. Although he started assisting me with the steering wheel on our way down because it was a steep hill and there were a few cars at the 90-degree corners. I didn’ t want him to help me but it doesn’t really bother me much because it was a short journey down. It was also my first time out of pre-St. Louis as we exited Revolution Avenue, and then down through Olivier Maradan Street and the Church, and then turn into English River, Perseverance near the Sports Village, and then back to Castor Road where I was dropped off. Thankfully I brought enough for bus fare!
I have another lesson at around 1:10pm tomorrow. After that, I will go to town either Airtel or Cable & Wireless to see if I can get a fixed line or a post paid and then go see a client. This means, if he changes the schedule and tells me to come later, I might have to tell him to just skip that day.
