Feedjit is a really cool widget that you can paste on your website or blog and it shows you a few details about your visitors as soon as they land on your page which is in real-time. For example: their location, how they arrived on your site (e.g. through a Google search incl. which keywords were used, email, direct link, etc.), the browser they’re using, their operating system, at which time they entered your site, and how they left your site (i.e. if they clicked on a link) and at which time they exited the site.
Although in most cases this is just for playful fun, visitors do not receive a warning or notification prior to visiting your website that it contains a feedjit widget and that the widget exposes some level of visitor privacy to the website owner (and anyone who clicks on the ‘Real-time View’ link at the bottom. Once, I visited a friend’s old blog and I wasn’t too happy finding a Feedjit on there. She knows I read her blog, and I’m also on her blogroll…but seeing the Seychelles flag on her blog made it feel too creepy (I am her only friend from the Seychelles, so who else would be on her blog?).
Anyway, there is a way to remove yourself from appearing on someone’s Feedjit widget and you can do that as soon as possible.
STEP 1: Scroll down and click on the ‘Real-Time View’ link. It will direct you to the Feedjit website, on the page where you can view the website owner’s visitors.
You should be able to see your listing.
STEP 2: Click on the ‘Remove Your IP’ button.
STEP 3: When you see the popup notification with: ‘Delete’ [#] entries for your IP address, click on the ‘OK’ button.
Your listing should now disappear, and you’re good to go!
