We were driving by Le Relax at Anse Royale this afternoon so we decided to stop and have lunch. It was a few minutes after 1pm actually. There was only one other occupied table; tourists I think. The restaurant area was really nice and cosy. Although it seemed like a simple place in such a limited space, it was a perfectly picturesque spot: great view of the ocean, tropical bar area, clean tables, Creole-ish decor.
To my surprise it’s actually an Indian restaurant, that serves some Creole dishes. Doesn’t really make sense in a way because the name of the place is “Le Relax” which is French-ish.
Most of the staff at the restaurant is actually Indian or perhaps I should say “South Asian” as they could have very well not been Indian.
I can say that they were ‘okay’ but not really friendly and certainly not in it to win any awards. The waitress was alright though. She laughed like she was indicating I must be crazy or something when I listed 2 items on the menu one immediately after the other, because I hadn’t given her enough time to write it down on paper.

My memory generally sucks but I’d be a better waitress. The trick is to say it out loud when you’re writing, so the customer knows exactly where you are on the paper. That said, how difficult is it for someone to memorize 2 items? I ordered a smoke fish salad and an ice-cream with gulab jamun.
Another disappointment: there was a small strand of hair on a carrot, in my smoked fish salad. It kind of makes one think how in the world did hair even get there? It looked very curly so I don’t think it belonged to any of the Indians.
Oh yeah and Ant, when you asked me for my leftover onions and I pretended that it was gross that you wanted my leftovers: it was because I didn’t want to turn everyone off their food and announce that I found hair in mine. So that would explain my reaction to you wanting those onions. Truth be told, I really don’t care who wants my leftovers…in fact, there wouldn’t have been any leftover had I not found hair in my salad. So yeah, sorry about that…I still owe you some onions.
There were 5 of us and our bill amounted to 800+ rupees. We ordered about 5 meals, 4 desserts, 1 soft drink and water. This means it is actually quite an affordable restaurant because Chilli Bar is somewhat mid-range and I’ve been there twice now and 3 of us have always had a bill of over 1000 rupees (quite similar to the costs of Pirate’s Arms).
Despite the minor disappointments however, I would recommend it because it definitely has a very relaxed atmosphere. Hence the name, ‘Le Relax‘.
