Searching For Seychelles’ First Blogger…

  • Sharebar

I was reading a blog off my blogroll she said that her daughter is Philippines’ first [known] blogger.  How interesting is that? This makes me wonder who is or was Seychelles’ first blogger? I know a few Seychelles blogs and bloggers online, many use free blog hosts such as Blogger and WordPress to host their blogs.  I suppose if I were to earn any title, it would be the first Seychellois blogger in Shanghai or perhaps China…but I can’t be too sure.  I started a blog on a free hosting site (which I can no longer remember) in 2004.  I then went on to have a blog on MSN Spaces before I ‘rented’ http://shanghai.blogsource.com in either 2005 or 2006.  So my earliest blog was in 2004.

I have decided to start searching for Seychelles’ first blogger.  I don’t know if I should be using past tense to talk about that person.  Anyway, the first blogger of a country doesn’t have to be a native of that country.  This means, Seychelles’ first blogger isn’t necessarily a Seychellois.  A Seychellois blogger living abroad but writing about Seychelles is not considered Seychelles’ first blogger, because the country’s first blogger is different from “a Seychellois blogger”.

So the only thing I should concentrate on is the first blogger in Seychelles, who was living here when they started blogging.  How can I go about finding out who this person is/was and if their blog is still in existence?

I can’t remember much about the internet boom period here in Seychelles because I wasn’t here.  When I left in 2004, almost nobody had the internet, and when I returned permanently, everyone did.

Notes:

  • What I have to do is research on the first free blog hosts, and the year that blogging became an ‘in’ thing.
  • I then have to figure out which year Seychelles’ internet providers were established.
  • Location is the trickiest however, because the blogger will have to actually claim to be in Seychelles (location of servers is useless in this search).
  • Provided that I find a blog, I will then have to go through their archives or archive.org to find out their earliest post.  If they have signed up but not posted, then that does not really make them a blogger now does it?

If anyone knows who that is, feel free to leave a comment thanks.
