I almost forgot to mention that I started driving again yesterday. I was supposed to start driving on Tuesday, but I texted my instructor and he didn’t get back to me so I called him and that’s when he told me that I could start again starting yesterday. So I met him at Fresh Cuts, and I drove to Roche Caiman Stade Linite area where the cones are. I did the exact same exercise I did last time I was there (lesson #9), basically zig zagging through the cones.
The last time I did that, I had about 5 tries or so and I only managed to get 100% once. This time, I went through it with the technique on the diagram I came up with on my lesson #9 post and it worked. I implemented that right from the start. So I managed to go through each cone corner, each time. I did this for about 6-7 times and then I headed to town. Mr. R met a friend of his so I had to stop at a parking spot, and then I had to literally reverse out of it and then drive back into the road. Interesting because it was a real-life experience of what the whole cones thing is teaching me.
The trick with the cone thing is also to go slow and ‘take your time’ with it. Because if you accidentally zoom into it, there’s no turning back.
What really surprised me though, is how much I’m getting the hang of turning the steering wheel as fast as possible while keeping my hands in the correct position. When I asked my instructor how I’m doing, he said “good” which is a bummer but at this point, he can say whatever he likes…I was really proud of myself today.
The Indian Ocean Island Games have ended so we won’t have a problem using the stadium area this week. Or at least I hope not. Come to think of it, it’s already Thursday so I don’t know what the plan is for next week (or if he’s thinking of keeping me on the cones for another week).
