Some time last week I got myself a very nice catchy fixed line phone number. It’s so pretty (IMO) that I was surprised that someone had actually decided to drop it. Of course I knew it was a recycled number, so I was expecting the common ‘wrong numbers’ I’d get. So far I already had several…I can confirm that the person who had my phone number is called ‘Steven’.
Then again, it is a Cable & Wireless number so in a way I wouldn’t be surprised if the person’s reason for dropping a pretty number is because he decided to go with Airtel. Over the week of making calls I’ve had a rather frustrating time. I don’t know how many times I’ve had to say “sorry? Can you please repeat that, I didn’t hear you the connection’s bad where I am…”. Not good. Cable & Wireless, you guys really need to do something about that.
I don’t really know how telecoms work but from what I hear it is a lot like hosting and its bandwidth. So there’s a specific capacity that they can hold. Word has it that Cable & Wireless is beyond capacity to the point where it’s affecting their service’s efficiency. Everyone’s paying good money for these services so whatever the reason, they really ought to solve it ASAP. It’s been like this ever since I got my phone number last year.
I literally have to stand outside to get better reception…I’ve stood outside in the rain, I’ve stood outside in the still of the night, I’ve stood outside in my gal-boxers, and I’ve stood outside barefooted.
Anyway, going back to the whole recycled numbers thing, I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t know that their close friend has changed his number. This one particular guy keeps calling, asking for Steven, and I don’t really know if he thinks I’m some sort of fling that answers a phone that isn’t even mine. I expect this to happen for a month or two, maybe even three…
