Coco De Mer Keychain

  • Sharebar

I’ve Christened my post office box key.  Last night I thought about the things in my life that needs to be settled today.  One of them was getting a new keychain for my keys.  Years ago I used to collect keychains, so I do have a few that I bought in Singapore but the metal parts have rusted because I didn’t keep them properly.  But what I really wanted to get was something more Seychelles-themed.  So I went to that small kiosk near Pirates’ Arms and bought myself 2 Coco De Mer keychains.  One of them is for my room key, and the other is for the box.

I especially like the one pictured above.  I bought it for only 25 rupees, and I really like it.  This is probably the best thing I bought myself all year.

This whole situation reminds me of the passport stamp issue, which I have written about on my blog.  Also a topic I was talking to a client about last week.  He admits, you must actually know about the Coco De Mer to look at all these as souvenirs or as a symbol of Seychelles because to everyone abroad or people who have no idea what the Coco De Mer is, they only see a private part.

Back to this particular keychain…I like it a lot because it shows both the male and female seed.  There’s also some level of humour to it; I don’t know why they’ve stuck some kind of husk looking thing right at the crotch.  I suppose it’s meant to bring it closer to resembling an un-groomed female prives.

The only thing missing with this small souvenir is some texture on the male part.  It would be awesome if it came with some kind of fuzzy yellow pollen looking design, that would make this keychain perfect.
