Recently I was contacted by someone from the USA asking for more information about obtaining a Coco De Mer. For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about:
The Coco De Mer is the world’s largest seed, and is endemic to Seychelles. The female seed looks like an adult female’s “shorts area” and the male Coco De Mer looks like a man’s private part with some kind of disease that includes a lot of yellow pus. There are lots of legends behind the reason for this, but I won’t tell the story that I know of on my blog because I’m trying to keep this blog rated ‘G’ as much as possible. That’s all I know.
I won’t lie, I never really knew much about the process of getting one. I don’t own one (and I’m starting to wonder why not).
I called one of my friends who’s in this tourism industry thing and she told me everything I needed to know! Basically, the Coco De Mer costs about SCR 3000 (approx. USD 250). If you buy it from places like the Botanical Gardens or Vallee De Mai, they should already have that green stamp or green sticker. The green stamp is a permit, that allows you to leave the country with the Coco De Mer.
She also told me that if the American lady wanted one, it could be sent to her via DHL…although she really ought to be given an idea of how heavy it weighs.
