Next Joomla Update Is Version 2.5!

The Version Votes Are In | Joomla! Community Portal.

Something I just found out this week in the Joomla world is that we should not expect version 1.7 to be upgraded to the expected 1.8 in a few months time.  Its next version release will be version 2.5.  This is huge.  We cannot underestimate this change.

In fact, the changes made when 1.5 was updated to 1.6 was considerably large enough.  There are also visible changes between 1.6 and 1.7.  But something off the 1.x version and already x.5 is unpredictable.

I’m currently developing a site on 1.5 and I have no choice but to PAUSE development.  Why? Because a third-party extension available on the 1.5 version is not yet available on the 1.6 or 1.7…but since 1.5 will be ‘discontinued’ on April 2012, there is no point in developing a new website on the old version.  This will only cost the site owner in the long run.

So while this is all happening in the Joomla world, I will be using Drupal and WordPress as CMS alternatives (they are awesome anyway).  Different from Joomla, but still good enough to get the results.

It’s been almost one whole year since I’ve developed a site using Drupal, and I haven’t used Drupal 7.  So This week I will begin developing a site using Drupal 7.  I can’t wait, it will be fun!
