Farewell Driving Lessons!

Did my on-road test today.  Not sure if I passed because I’m supposed to go collect my results in two weeks but I THINK I passed.  Here’s hoping.  There was this one time I stopped and didn’t shift to first gear immediately (I sort of prefer to shift it right before I accelerate) and I’m not sure if the policeman was bothered about that.  But that was the only problem as far as I’m concerned.  As soon as I entered the car and started moving, the policeman told me that the person who drove before me failed because she did way too many errors (one of them being she did not stop when the traffic light was turning orange, and then turned red).

I took the following route:

Car Park –> Long Pier (Cat Cocos) –> English River Road –> Castor Road –> Revolution Avenue (pre-St. Louis) –> Bel Air / Bel Eau –> Car Park

I think I was also at Hangard Street to be honest, but I might be getting that confused with yesterday’s lesson.

Anyway, that’s it…I’m done.

Sort of.

I’ve asked my instructor to help me practice more so this Saturday he has agreed to let me drive in places that aren’t really learners-route.  I told him I want to do the Katiolo route (Pointe Larue).  Because let’s face it…if I ever get my hands on a car, I’ll be clubbing like it’s 1995…or 2005 rather.  So I’ll have to know these roads well so I can tackle them at night.  I just need to maintain focus while on the road and I’ll be alright.

After Katiolo I would actually really like to do the Anse Royale’s University of Seychelles route, and also Tequila Boom (Belombre) route.  Also wouldn’t mind starting in town and then driving up to Beau Vallon and back to town via North East Point.  Then there’s the La Misere road.  That’s a total of 5 routes, which I wouldn’t mind doing twice each.

But the problem with driving practice is time…I didn’t like driving lessons much because it interfered with my schedule.  Hopefully driving practice is a lot more stress-free and flexible (i.e. I don’t need to drive if I don’t have time to).

After all this, I must say that I’m glad I tried driving as often as possible (even 4-5 days a week when it was possible).  This has given me a lot of practice on the roads that I had attempted.
