This week I finally received the 3 parcels of my personal belongings that I left in China. A really good friend of mine helped keep it for several months and then she helped me post the stuff. Today I was rummaging through the boxes and I was pleasantly surprised at what I found…my friend had slipped in a present for me which included a jade bracelet.
I never really told anyone that I had always wanted one. It’s just been at the back of my mind ever since I landed in China several years ago and somehow I never got round to getting one for myself.
In China, the only foreign friend of mine who wore one (that I was aware of) was from Vietnam. Her mother gave it to her years ago and she carries it around with her because it won’t come off.
Just as I was thinking of that story, I tried the bracelet and then attempted to remove it…and what do you know, it’s stuck. I haven’t been able to remove it at all. It even hurt my wrist when I tried to pull it out. Not that I didn’t want to continue wearing it; I just wanted to know if I would be able to remove it.
Looks like I’ll be carrying it wherever I go. I really like it though, and I hear it turns deep green after a while so this will be interesting.
Funny enough, in a previous relationship my ex wanted me to wear a ring but it kept falling off (bad luck?) so I chucked it away (yup, if you ever saw me wearing a stupid ring in the past, that was the one). Boy was he not happy about that. Perhaps it would have been smarter for him to get me something that would have been really tough to remove, and I would have avoided that over-dramatic lecture.
