For quite some time now I’ve been trying to figure out if Twitter is something that has some sort of marketing potential here in Seychelles. Most netizens with a Facebook account will somehow automatically sign up for Twitter, most internet enthusiasts that I know have both accounts…and also a Foursquare account. But it’s almost like Twitter is dead here in Seychelles. People will get a Twitter account because they’re supposed to or they’re told to but when I browse through Seychellois Twitter accounts they’re not updated frequently or not updated at all.
In fact, most of my friends here don’t use Twitter at all (do they even know what Twitter is, I wonder?). For this reason, I am rarely ever on it because even if I update my status nobody will read it so what’s the point?
I’m pretty sure though, due to the fact that Twitter is still an “in” thing like Facebook, it’s still growing in popularity here in Seychelles. But I am assuming that it’s not going to be that big a deal after a while; especially because it lacks the buzz here. While the informed are already a member, they are losing interest because the large portion of the Seychellois netizens are too concentrated on Facebook.
