  • Sharebar

One of the recent open source software after MeeGo is Tizen software platform. Just like MeeGo, Tizen is also an operating system based on Linux. But still the question is what exactly is Tizen? Tizen is similar to MeeGo which can be used for mobile phones, tablets, and other house hold electronic devices, smart TV’s, etc.

The programming interface of Tizen applications are based on HTML5 and some other web standards.  It is a light-weight; fast-booting operating system which will give advanced support. It will provide features which will be expanded, with improved performance. The Tizen project is based on Linux foundation. MeeGo, Intel and Samsung will be the main development team. And other companies like Panasonic Mobile, NEC Casio, NTT DoCoMo, SK Telecom, Vodafone, etc will be those who will make decisions. Samsung will add Tizen to the list of operating system provided in mobile phones which includes Android, Windows Phone and its’ own Bada OS.

It is said that, in first quarter of 2012 it will be released and after that MeeGo will be replaced with Tizen. And Tizen will be the new open source Linux-based operating system. However, MeeGo will be available for people who wish to use or develop. And Tizen will also be compatible with applications of MeeGo OS and it will be allowed to use directly.
