Exploring Open Source Java Web Frameworks

  • Sharebar

I can’t contain my excitement.  There’s just a whole other world out there that I never really cared to explore in the past.  I just didn’t want to get into the whole shizz of computer programming, so I avoided Java like it was the plague.  Even if I knew that there are so many web-based applications built on Java.

I’ve downloaded JDK and Netbeans.  It’s a lot like Dreamweaver in a way; you’ve got the source codes but it’s also a WYSIWYG editor.  It has a very Visual Basic feel to it (although I have very little experience with VB).

This is a whole other world to me…almost like a parallel universe.  I don’t even know where to begin.  I don’t even know how to bring a Java application to a web browser.  I saw a ‘database’ file in the sources, and I don’t even know if they have something like MySQL where the database is not stored with the source files.

I won’t have a lot of time to look into all of these today but I am checking out some open source (obviously) Java web applications.  So hopefully these sites would give me an answer on how to begin with all this.

I’ve selected 6 sites to explore:

I know very little about Java programming.  In fact, the only thing I know about Java right now is the JRE (Java Runtime Environment) that I have to download and ...
