I know very little about Java programming. In fact, the only thing I know about Java right now is the JRE (Java Runtime Environment) that I have to download and install in my computer for things to run smoothly when I visit websites. Which means there are a lot of websites out there using Java for their webpages. I would also be able to identify objects on a webpage that is using Java…for example, some chatrooms use Java chat applets. I’ve also come across image upload tools created using Java.
The reason why I might have to learn Java is because I want this site to have a feature (that I will explain further on a future post) that everyone will be able to use. In fact, it’s something I personally need. It’s a simple script and there are all kinds of versions available online, but the uniqueness of mine would be in the contents of the database.
I don’t think it’s a script that would be difficult for Java programmers to build, but I expect the project to be a continuous development process. I don’t want to have to keep asking the programmer for help with this and that…so I don’t think I have a choice but to learn it…at least enough of it.
I don’t have a background in computer programming, but I suppose I can do my best to apply. I mean, I know it would require a database of some sort. So all I have to do is read about Java’s functions, learn how to get things to work the way I want them to, understand the way these files connect with the database, and other things I might have to find out along the way.
As I compose this blog post I am downloading JDK 7 with NetBeans. I have absolutely no idea what NetBeans is. But I suppose it can’t hurt to have it. This is just the beginning for me though. After I become more familiar with this language I expect to be able to blog more about it and hopefully post something more informative.
