How To Add A Favicon To Your Website

  • Sharebar

A ‘favicon‘ is short for ‘favourites icon’.  It’s that small little icon you see at the left side of your browser tab or addressbar when you visit a website.  It’s useful when you bookmark a site, you can easily identify your bookmarks by its icon.  This is because most favicons either uses the website’s logo or colours.

A favicon is also professional.  Every site that wants to have a more professional aspect to it needs a favicon.

The icon needs to be in a .ico image format.  The normal size of a favicon is 16×16 pixels.

Today, free favicon generators and converters are available online so you don’t need a specific software for it.

Recommended sites:

Simply upload your image (e.g. 100×100 or 200×200 pixels) in any image format, for example .png, .jpg, etc. and click the submit button.  Download the favicon.ico created and voila, you have your favicon.

If you have an HTML site, upload the favicon into the main directory.  If your site is a CMS, upload the favicon into the directory of the theme in use.

Clear your cache, and you should be able to see your favicon on the browser tabs or addressbar!
