High Diastolic Blood Pressure Is Bad News

  • Sharebar

My mum has to go to the clinic every day to get her blood pressure checked because yesterday they found out that she has hypertension.  Today, her diastolic blood pressure reached 100 which is dangerously high.  Normal DBP is about 60-79.  Yesterday her diastolic BP was at 94 so it went up by 6 in just one day.  This is bad news.  Although her systolic blood pressure decreased from about 145 to 130.

My mother has had a medical history of cardiovascular-related illnesses ranging from angina pectoris to mild stroke.  They will not be able to operate on her tooth tomorrow because of her high blood pressure.  Which is another piece of bad news because this whole tooth issue is also very serious.  She is on two types of antibiotics.

This coming weekend we were supposed to host a baby shower BBQ for one of my friends, but I’ve decided to cancel it.  I don’t want to do anything to raise my mum’s stress levels and parties are usually the source of stress.

What’s interesting though is how much bad news can really act as a reminder of what’s important in life and what isn’t.

Anyway, if her DBP reaches 110 (hypertensive emergency) she will be admitted to the hospital.  She will also not be allowed on the plane.
