It’s almost 3:30am and I have just jumped into bed. I am a bit tired so I will not try to make this post a long one. As I mentioned earlier, Dominique had caught the flu so we cancelled our plans for the day and decided to take things easy.
So I went over to Div’s dorm room to hangout and she decided to introduce me to some of her friends in the building. I noticed that nobody had anything planned for the countdown so I then suggested that we have a small countdown gathering.
That’s the unfortunate circumstance of the system here in China – while the rest of the world is basking in the festive season of Christmas and the turn of the New Year, students here are having exams.
Interesting enough we managed to pull it off. Div bought beers and snacks and I prepared a “bai jiu cocktail’ which consisted of fruit soaked in bai jiu and a cut mini sausage on a cocktail stick.
The gathering or small party even turned out better than we had expected.
Although I’ve drank some booze, specifically Heineken and a Malibu-aloe vera cocktail…we decided to not over do it because we want to feel energized in the morning. We need to do something because we’ve taken things easy for several consecutive days now.
The turn of the New Year isn’t a time when I feel the need to drink my brain cells away. It is deeper than that to me. It’s the time when I want to reflect on the previous year and think up of ways to make me reach some of my new annual goals.
To all my friends who have greeted me – thank you. To all my wonderful family especially the ones boozing up in Singapore – I’m so grateful to have you and I’m glad you are all enjoying yourselves. To the family that are with me here in Beijing – Thank you for turning it into something so memorable despite our limited resources here and very limited number of friends. To God – thank you, I have everything I want in life and I am so grateful.
