I’m sick and tired of my weight gain so I’ve decided to cheat. I’m on Chinese lotus diet tea, aka “lotus die tea”. After months of attempting to portion my diet, “portion control” I realized that as an OCD person that sort of thing really isn’t possible. The one thing that worked for me in the past was starvation diet, but you come to a point when your weight is way above what it should be that you really cannot endure starvation.
The “cheating” diet works this way: the tea is a combination of ingredients (lotus leaf, hawthorn, green tea, seaweed, licorice root, cassia obtusifolia). If you drink the tea on an empty stomach, nothing will happen so it’s all good. However, when you eat something – anything at all, when your stomach is done with the food and it enters the intestines you will get a stomach ache.
This stomach ache gets worse and worse until you have no choice but to run to the toilet and use it. It’s a painful experience if you’ve eaten quite a bit.
With this specific tea that I’m drinking, I noticed that it took about 3-4 cups for me to realize that it actually works. Here’s the English part of the pack:
According to the traditional Chinese medicine healthy theory, taking lotus leaf, hawthorn, green tea, seaweed, licorice root witch can be used as both of medicine and food. It is confirmed by functional experiment that the product is of the healthy effect of losing weight.
The taste is not unpleasant, if you are used to drinking flower teas or green tea then you might actually enjoy this a bit because it’s not that bitter. Best of all, I actually enjoy licorice so I can really taste it in there.

The interesting thing about getting into this is that it’s also psychological: you will notice that whenever you eat something you will develop a stomach ache that will then rush you to the toilet. This stomach ache is not particularly pleasant, unless you enjoy pain. So if you’re drinking the lotus tea throughout the day you will consciously be aware of how much food you’re eating. The more you eat, the more painful the stomach ache. It almost seems like if you eat too much, you will be punished.
I’ve been drinking this for about 3 days now, and I have actually lost weight. I started at 48Kgs (some of them not permanent weight though). I am now at around 46.5, so I’m guessing that’s my actual permanent weight. My target weight is 42Kgs. I’m still hopeful…!
If you’re interested to know where I got this tea from: I bought it at a tea store in Beijing, China. My twin sister tried it quite a while back and swears to it.
