I’m one of those people who would sign up for an email account that I don’t need, just so that I can take advantage of something that I might need in the future. As soon as I heard that Microsoft was going to replace hotmail.com with outlook.com and emails will have to be migrated to the new platform, I decided to grab the username that I wanted. I shared the news on Facebook so I hope some of you out there who are on my friends list have also signed up for it (especially if you are a Microsoft fan). I was able to get the ‘sabz’ username. Yay me.
To be honest, I don’t really use the email service. Be it a hotmail, msn or live ID. I only use it for the purpose of being able to chat on MSN. Gmail is still currently my #1 choice of email. But I do like the idea of experiencing a new email address and new email service. So anyway, here are some recommended reading:

Most of the times you try to get the email liek yourname@gmail or yourname@yahoo, I have heard people saying that at the first trial, it will say the email id is not available, and it would ask you to try another one. Next time if you try with some other usual id. again the same message comes. In most of the cases, people get their id after atleast two attempts.
One of my friend tried it with some very unusual name for the first two times and then his own name third time and he got it….! It looks as if by default the id for the first two times are rejected.
But thanks Sabrina I would like to try my account with hotmail also because I had no information about it being mearged with outlook.
I think this only applies to @hotmail IDs, although I’m not 100% certain. I tried upgrading my @live.com ID and it was migrated to the new Outlook.com platform but the actual ID @live.com stands unaltered. So as far as I know only the platform has changed. Nevertheless, I’m very happy that I’ve acquired a 4-Letter @outlook.com ID. I was very young when hotmail and yahoo started out so I wasn’t quite as lucky with these ones.
I just made an account. What I like the most about outlook is the fill up form, the security question for lost password, they gave the option of keeping phone number and its very simple to use with nice feature. Forgot to mention, its very light so process doesn’t take time to load and it opens quickly. Thanks for posting it on Facebook
Haha, nice to see you up so early on a Saturday morning, Satinder!
I was up at the break of dawn and I have no idea how that happened. LOL. Yes, I’ve tried Outlook and it’s amazing so far. Speed is incredible, and you can imagine how much that can be of a benefit for someone who lives in a country where the net speed just sucks. But how someone will move from Gmail to Outlook.com is beyond me. Then again, it’s a new year and maybe it’s time for a new change?
Yes I agree with you on this. It will become popular I think due to speed especially. But, that’s also a fact that many people are so much involved with Gmail account that it will be bit difficult. You or me and many other people, mainly give out Gmail address related to profession. So, it is difficult to change that.
Yup. I have 2 phone numbers and people keep asking me which one I’m using. I don’t want there to be any confusion as to which email address because people tend to use emails to send important stuff.
