End of Year Scam: African Grey Parrot

The end of year’s festive season is fast-approaching and it’s that time of the year again when everyone has to buy presents for the special people in their lives.  A few years ago I read a story about a guy who wanted to buy his kids a new pet for Christmas.  He wanted to get an intelligent and gentle animal that could be kept caged inside the house.  So he was offered an African Gray (or Grey) Parrot from the depths of Africa for only 900 Euros…and the idiot completely fell for it.

It’s almost too ironic, that people who are smart enough to earn more money than they need are the same people who are careless enough to lose their money in the most dumbest possible ways.

I’ve already received two African Gray Parrot notices so please BEWARE of them.  There are so many other pets you can get for your kids.

Sample scam message:

“I have an African gray tineha for sale. He is about 3 years old, a really sweet bird,a good talker,he laughs a lot, funny too.he says his name, our names, calls the dogs, whistles. Says give me a kiss.wolf whistle. Telephone ringing, tells birds to shut up! A lot of stuff. He is a quick learner, real smart,so I’m looking for a lifetime home for him.we paid a lot for him.some one could really enjoy his company. Serious inquiries please. Cage included free if you are interested you can contact my on <<scraig.steve@yahoo.com>> or you can send me an sms on

    Wow! now that’s something new..!!!

Tell me one thing the guy who fell for such a deal, did he ever received that grey parrot?

Nope, he didn’t receive the parrot. The person who scammed him was located in Africa, and the bank that took his money there refused to return it. The police didn’t want to get involved. If you are scammed by someone overseas, it might be very difficult to get your money back because of the different laws. Plus in many African countries, policemen, bank staff, etc. can be easily bribed.
