About Me
My name is Sabrina, I just turned 27 and I have a wide spectrum of interests. I am an internet enthusiast, and my 3 passions in life being internet-related, is proof enough:
My #1 passion is actually blogging, and I tend to get carried away with it sometimes (hence the reason I had to ‘kill’ my previous blog).
My #2 passion is internet marketing. I haven’t done black hat SEO for almost 1 and a half years now because I’ve been quite busy doing other things but I must say, it’s just fun, fun, fun. Once, I started a site on a new domain name and brought it from a PR of N/A to PR4 in a span of 3 months (right at the update of the Google PR). Accomplished that without viral marketing.
My #3 passion is web design and development. I started doing WYSIWYG HTML websites in 2006, registered my first domain in 2007, the year 2007 was also a turning point in my involvement with web design (e.g. learnt about open source freewares, web maintenance), I started handcoding HTML in 2008, handcoding with CSS in 2009. Hopefully 2010 will be the year for PHP & MySQL?

History
On my 16th birthday, my elder brother decided that his birthday gift for my twin sister and I will be a “How To Use A Desktop PC” tutorial. It’s probably the best birthday gift I’ve ever received. This was in the year 1999 so we were on a Pentium II, and Windows ’98.
Before that, the only time I was allowed on the PC was when my elder sister was around (it was her PC) and I would only use Microsoft Word for school projects.
That year was a turning point in my life. I explored Microsoft Office (including Microsoft Access), learnt about WinZip and compressing files (heck, I had to fit everything into a floppy disk). I found out that if I converted the floppy disk into FAT, I’d be able to store a lot more files in it.
We didn’t have internet connection at the time, but my sister had CoolPage installed and I actually took the time to build my very own HTML website by using the WYSIWYG editor. I think it’s quite interesting that I remember this specifically, because at the time I was a “science student” and always thought I’d end up doing something science-related.
During O’Levels I actually took up Art 3 months before the exam. Due to the clashes on my time table, I ended up having to attend the A’Level classes. I’m sure that confused a lot of people. I didn’t intend to take up Art A’Level, I just wanted an extra O’Level to secure my spot in case I didn’t do so well in the other subjects.
For A’Levels I chose 2 humanities subject (Modern European History & English Literature) and my favourite science subject (Biology). We were given ‘A Street Car Named Desire – by Tennessee Williams‘ on the first day of English Lit. and I thought “who am I kidding, I’m not going to read this” and the next day I dropped English Lit. for Art & Design.
That same week I found out that I was the only student with a unique combination of selected subjects so my classes clashed and because they couldn’t do anything about it (changing my schedule would mean revising the entire subjects timetable for every subject combination), I had to skip a period of Art class every week to do Modern European History (according to them academic cancels out vocational).
I chose to major in Art & Design after that and I must admit it is a very vast and flexible field. It is challenging because it pushes you in terms of creativity. It is also extremely time-consuming.
It’s funny that we’re often led to believe that if you’re not academically gifted you ought to take up something more vocational. After spending a good number of years on both fields throughout my life I must say it’s probably the other way round.
