Service Search: Craigslist Vs. Facebook?

My first ever experience of using the web to locate services was when I was still living in Shanghai.  Although during most of my time spent in China, Facebook was blocked and so I decided to spend life without the awesome online tool.  And so there were other services for expatriates including Craigslist.

The Beauty of Shanghai Public Transportation Cards

In most of the years that I was living in Shanghai, I never used those public transportation cards.  The first 2-3 years I travelled around by taxi (mainly because at the time, I thought it was affordable and convenient and also because I seldom left the dorm).  After that, I decided to get myself a [...]

Guilty Pleasures In Shanghai

I’m about to share a bit of a ‘funny’ true story with you; ’til today I’ve only shared it with my twin sister because it is also somewhat shameful. When I was living in Shanghai I had something like “movie night” as often as every other night.  It was something that was mine alone; I’d [...]

I’m At An Internet Cafe In Town

I’m sipping Jasmine tea at Y@wnet right now (tea sold separately).  It’s an internet cafe in town.  The price is quite affordable (SCR15 for 30 minutes), although it would be great if they offered some kind of membership so I could get a discount…heheh… The speed of internet here is better than my internet speed [...]

My Experience With Halloween

In Seychelles we do not celebrate Halloween.  It’s not in the culture, nor tradition.  In recent years however, there have been a growing number of Halloween-themed events such as discos, parties, etc.  Some stores might offer Halloween discounts or sales (this is quite rare but it happens).  As far as I know, that’s pretty much [...]

China’s Great Wall Vs. India’s Taj Mahal

Both are wonders of the world and I’ve always wanted to see India’s Taj Mahal.  Next month I’ve decided to take a 3-week break abroad and I’ve been pondering on whether the vacation should be to visit China or India.

Jade Bracelet Stuck On My Wrist

This week I finally received the 3 parcels of my personal belongings that I left in China.  A really good friend of mine helped keep it for several months and then she helped me post the stuff.  Today I was rummaging through the boxes and I was pleasantly surprised at what I found…my friend had [...]

Seychelles Nation: Should local businesses change their opening hours?

Should local businesses change their opening hours? I was talking to a non-Seychellois about this exact topic a few weeks ago.  He found it odd that people here in Seychelles are ‘spoiled’ to that extent, i.e. almost everyone takes their lunch from 12pm to 1pm without fail.  The topic came up because I was working [...]

RIP Boakai Andy!

Earlier today I found out through Facebook’s birthday notification that it was my friend Boakai’s birthday.  I went to his wall and was shocked to find out that he is no longer with us.  So I really want to take a few minutes to write a few things about my old pal.  Most of the [...]

Time for Another Dose of Time Management

I didn’t think I would need it any time soon, especially because I’m just starting out, but it looks like busy-ness couldn’t have arrived any sooner…I am officially a busy person.  I have a lot on my plate, to the point whereby I have to actually get offline from any IM so I can sit [...]

Teeth Whitening Method That Really Works

This is not a sponsored post (although it should be, heheh…).  A few months ago a close friend of mine and longtime childhood buddy “Ant”, who coaches the juniors of the national swimming team told me that she’s headed to Shanghai with “the kids” as they will be participating in the Fina World Championships.

Seychelles Takes 5th Place for Gender Equality Within Commonwealth Nations

Seychelles has apparently ranked #5 out of 54 Commonwealth countries, when it comes to gender equality.  New Zealand tops the list, followed by Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica and then Seychelles, respectively. My take on gender equality here in Seychelles…well, it’s definitely up there.  I remember a few years ago in Shanghai when I was [...]

Ok, ok…here’s the update! Yawn.

I haven’t updated this blog for a few weeks now. Been too busy for this blog. The new semester has begun, I’ve started working on my website and my mum is in Shanghai (sharing my dorm room!). So I’ve been trying to get back on track with the studies, trying to get more members in [...]

Update 5th February

Ballerina Cookies I’m munching away on “Ballerina”, a cookie with hazelnut cream filling by Goteborgs. This cookie deserves mention because its hazelnut cream filling actually tastes like concentrated hazelnut milk chocolate. I spent last week eating vegetarian meals until I gained 2Kg. So I spent the past few days dieting and 2 nights ago I [...]
